Customers Urge Recall of Nissan Navaras – Fears of Snapping in Half

ITV News reports that many customers are urging Nissan to recall its Navara (called “Nissan Frontier” in the U.S.) trucks.

Over 15,000 people have joined a Facebook group that urges the company to recall the trucks. They are concerned that the presence of rust around the truck’s chassis can cause it to break.

Details on the Effort to Recall the Nissan Navara Trucks

The Facebook group urging the recall was set up by Richy Holmes after his Navara broke while it was towing a caravan.

Holmes says he was lucky he wasn’t driving at a higher speed when it happened. Customers are calling for a full recall.

The concerns pertain to models of the 4×4 pick-up truck registered between 2005 and 2011.

Huw Merriman, a member of the Commons Transport Select Committee, said that a recall of all affected vehicles would go a long way in reassuring the public.

Nissan’s Response to the Petition to Recall its Navara Trucks

  • Nissan said it is aware of the issue but that it affects a “relatively small number” of previous generation D40 Navaras.
  • The company stated that it has put measures in place to “quickly resolve the concerns of any customers”.
  • Nissan has offered a free inspection to some motorists and it has bought back some affected trucks.
  • A Nissan spokesperson said “As long as these vehicles are properly maintained, serviced and MoT’d they are safe to drive.” The spokesperson further stated that it is standard industry practice to only recall a vehicle when there is a safety issue.
  • The company stresses they are responding on a case-by-case basis.
