Distracted Driver Crashes Through Yard, Lands in Swimming Pool

Corpus Christi authorities responded to a distracted driving accident on Friday to find that a Toyota FJ Cruiser had crashed through a fence and landed in a backyard swimming pool.

Details of the Corpus Christi Distracted Driving Accident

According to KRIS-TV, the accident occurred Friday evening on the 400 block of Doddridge Road, Santa Fe and Alameda.

Police said the driver of the FJ Cruiser was reaching for his phone, which had fallen to the vehicle’s floor, when he lost control of his vehicle and crashed into a minivan that was traveling in the same direction. He then careened off the road, through a fence, and finally came to rest in a swimming pool.

Investigators said it does not appear that the driver of the FJ Cruiser braked during the incident. The driver was ticketed for distracted driving, failure to maintain a single lane of travel, and damaging the home.

A passenger in the minivan, an elderly man, was transported to the hospital for treatment. No other injuries were reported.

Perhaps the most astonishing (and troubling) part of the accident is that the owner of the home told reporters the accident was nothing new. In fact, the owner claims this is the fourth time something like this has happened since they purchased the home.
