According to KTVI, a domestic dispute between a man and a woman leads to an 18-wheeler causing a fatal five-car pileup on the highway in O’Fallon, Illinois, on Monday night.

Driver Could Face Charges; Investigation Pending

Witnesses reported an argument between a semi-truck driver and his female passenger at around 9:30 p.m. local time. The police, originally responding to the domestic dispute call, diverted to the scene of a massive multiple-vehicle crash nearby.

KTVI reports that the female passenger jumped from the cab of the man’s tractor-trailer near a McDonald’s on Route 50. Less than a mile away, the driver of the 18-wheeler collided with a vehicle causing a chain-reaction crash involving a total of five vehicles.

The driver of one of those vehicles, 67-year-old Cheryl Culver, died during the wreck. KTVI reports that three others sustained injuries. Police are still investigation the wreck and trying to determine why the semi-truck driver caused it.
