A police officer in Maine attempted to stop a speeding driver that would later cause a fatal accident.
The driver, Ethan John Rioux-Poulios, was going 87 mph in a 55 mph area. An officer attempted to stop him but lost track of him.
Later the same officer was notified by another driver that Rioux-Poulios hit the car of John Pikiell. Rioux-Poulios hit the vehicle and forced it off the road.
Pikiell was killed in the crash. Rioux-Poulios has now been charged with both manslaughter and fleeing the accident.
According to the NHTSA, “speeding is one of the most prevalent factors contributing to traffic crashes”.
