Driver Charged in DWI Crash that Killed Motorcyclist

Police have arrested a College Station resident following a suspected drunk driving accident that resulted in the death of a young motorcyclist.

Details of the Motorcycle Accident

According to The Eagle, a 22-year-old Bryan man was killed Tuesday morning when a pickup truck pulled in front of his motorcycle in the 2500 block of Texas Avenue around 3 am. The motorcycle struck the left side of the truck, and the rider was thrown from the vehicle.

The driver of the truck, Andrew Gueda, 36, was charged with driving while intoxicated following the crash.

The crash remains under investigation, but authorities have said the motorcyclist was wearing a helmet when the crash occurred.

Texas Traffic Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT):

  • 3,773 people were killed in traffic crashes in Texas in 2016, marking a 5.45-percent increase from the 3,578 deaths reported in 2015.
  • Motorcyclists accounted for 496 of those deaths. 53 percent of those killed were not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
  • An additional 265,076 people were injured in traffic accidents in Texas in 2016.
