Eight Students and a Driver Injured in School Bus-Car Collision

According to KABC, eight students on a school bus were injured, one critically, after their bus crashes into the side of a car in Lancaster, California, on Tuesday morning.

About the School Bus Crash

The school bus wreck occurred near the intersection of 20th Street East and East Lancaster Boulevard at around 7:15 a.m. local time. Officials say a school bus carrying eight special education students and two aides crashed into a car and a utility pole.

Seven of the students on the bus were injured in the crash, reports KABC. These students sustained injuries that were classified as minor. The eighth student sustained critical injuries in the crash. In addition, the driver of the car that was hit was critically injured. The teacher’s aides and bus driver were uninjured.

Multiple ambulances responded to the scene to transport the injured children from the scene to local hospitals. According to KABC, the cause of the bus crash is under investigation.

    • Most (71%) of the people who lost their lives in these crashes were occupants of other vehicles involved in the crashes.
    • Nonoccupants, including pedestrians, bicyclists, etc., accounted for 21 percent of the fatalities.
  • Among the 106 occupants killed in school transportation vehicles between 2004 and 2013, 45 were drivers and 61 were passengers.
