Elderly Woman Struck and Killed by Delivery Truck; Driver Faces Charges

According to The Chicago Tribune, an elderly pedestrian suffered from fatal injuries after being hit by a truck while crossing the street in the Little Village neighborhood of Chicago on Thursday afternoon.

Details of Fatal Pedestrian-Semi Crash

Telesfora R. Escamilla, 84, was walking near the intersection of 28th Street and Drake Avenue after getting a haircut when the tragic accident occurred. While crossing Drake Avenue, the pedestrian was struck by a delivery truck turning southbound.

Escamilla suffered critical injuries in the crash and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital where she would be pronounced dead. Escamilla, well known in the neighborhood, had lived in the Little Village area for about 60 years, reports The Chicago Tribune.

The delivery truck driver, 29-year-old Valdimar C. Gray, was cited for pedestrian right of way, failure to carry driver’s license, and two citations for failure to stop at a stop sign. He also faces a misdemeanor count of operating an uninsured motor vehicle. According to The Chicago Tribune, Gray was working for a delivery service company that works with Amazon.
