An employee at one of the terminals at Port Everglades was killed on Wednesday in an accident with a semi-truck.
A Broward Sheriff’s Office spokesperson, Keyla Concepcion, told the media that one of the employees was leaving work for the day when the tractor-trailer was coming into the yard and hit the pedestrian.
The accident happened just after 5 p.m. near the guard shack that’s in the facility.
When firefighter arrives at the scene of the accident, they did their best to revive the man, but he was ultimately pronounced dead at the scene.
The truck that hit the employee is owned and operated by Martainer Incorporated, a trucking company based in Miami with only five employees.
Spokesperson Concepcion further said that traffic homicide investigators were continuing to conduct an investigation, and that the medical examiner’s office is also performing their own investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
The identity of the victim has not been identified until the next of kin of the victim has been notified.
