Espresso Makers Recalled Due to Impact and Burn Hazards

IMUSA has announced the recall of 17,500 of their espresso makers due to the fragility of the filler caps which can crack and allow steam to escape. The products poses a risk of burns to users.

In addition, the caps can also unpredictably pop off at any given moment as a result of pressure buildup. This poses an impact injury risk not only to users, but to innocent bystanders as well.

Incidents and Injuries Reported

The following information was provided by the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):

  • The firm has received 43 reports of injuries sustained by users.
  • Of those 43 reports, one included a man who sustained burns to his hand from steam escaping through a crack in the cap.

Espresso Maker Recall Information

  • There were about 17,500 units sold.
  • The espresso makers were sold at Kmart, Sears, Target and other stores nationwide from July 2014 through November 2014 for between $30 and $45.
  • The espresso makers being recalled are black or gray and black and have model numbers GAU-18200 and GAU-18201.
  • The caps on the recalled espresso makers have date codes “201407” and “201411”.
  • The model number and date code are printed on a rating label on the bottom of each espresso maker.
  • “IMUSA” is printed on the front of each espresso maker.
