FedEx Worker Killed in Accident
A tragic accident in Memphis, Tenn. has investigators from the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) trying to piece together the events that led to a worker’s death early Thursday morning.
About the FedEx Worker Death
According to WREG News, a young man identified as Chandler Warren, 19, died after sustaining fatal injuries in an accident at FedEx World Hub on Democrat Road in Memphis, Tenn.
Early reports indicate that an aircraft loader toppled over and caught Warren underneath. OSHA investigators are onsite attempting to piece together the events that led up to the fatal accident.
WREG describes the FedEx Hub where the accident took place as “the key nervce center in the company’s package shipping operations.” The facility covers over 800 acres at the Memphis International Airport.
The Hub has been inspected by OSHA 12 times since 2005. One inspection was the result of an employee injury in February 2011. The employee developed an infection after sustaining an on-the-job injury.
Workplace Accident Statistics
According to OSHA, a total of 4,628 workers were killed in workplace accidents in 2012. Averaged out, 89 workers died each week; each day more than 12 workers died. About 4,175 of the worker fatalities in 2012 were workers in the private industry.
