Florida Authorities Blame Aggressive Driving for Crash That Killed 3

Florida Highway Patrol say an aggressive driver likely caused a fatal accident that left him and at least two others dead Saturday.

Details of the Fatal Florida Crash

According to CBS Miami, the crash occurred when a BMW lost control on State Road 50 near Gloucester Street, traveled into the median, and flipped over onto a pickup truck. The pickup then went over the shoulder before striking a fence.

The driver of the BMW, an unidentified male, and the driver of the pickup, 69-year-old Linda McCormick, were both trapped in their vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the pickup, 13-year-old Dylon McCormick, was also killed in the collision.

Two other passengers, Carl McCormick, 74, and Teddy McCormick, 73, remain in critical condition.

The accident remains under investigation.

The following information was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • 35,092 people were killed in traffic crashes in the U.S. in 2015. This marked a 7.2-percent increase over the 32,744 deaths recorded in 2014 – the largest percentage increase recorded since 1966.
  • Of those killed in traffic accidents in 2015:
    • 22,441 were occupants of passenger vehicles
    • 5,376 were pedestrians
    • 4,976 were motorcyclists (operators and passengers)
    • 818 were pedalcyclists
    • 667 were occupants of large trucks
    • 227 were listed as other or as unknown
  • An additional 2,443,000 people were injured in traffic accidents in 2015.
