The Florida Police Department is investigating an accident that occurred on Monday in North Florida, according to Reuters.
Shannon Ford, 35, was driving a log truck along a highway with his wife, passenger Sherry Ford, 34, when he crashed into a school bus that had stopped in the right lane of the highway. Four motorists in two different counties reported Ford had been driving recklessly beforehand, with one stating he had run several red lights, according to a Nassau County Sheriff’s report.
Mary Mercer, Nassau Sherriff’s records manager, said their deputy pulled Ford over but did not file a report after a highway trooper arrived on scene. Shannon Ford was given a correction notice for several problems, which included a broken light said Dylan Bryan, Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) spokesman.
The accident resulted in seven children and three adults, including the Fords, being transported to the hospital. Two of the children remain hospitalized as of Tuesday night, states Bryan.
The FHP also estimates damages from the accident include $45,000 to the 1995 truck and $65,000 to the 2008 school bus. In addition, investigators are considering whether Sherry Ford’s appearance was a factor in the accident.
According to Brad Smith, spokesman for Bradford County Sheriff, first responders found Sherry Ford outside the log truck wearing only a bra. Nonetheless, charges are pending against the Fords who will release statements after the investigation is complete.
