Amber Willemsen, who is 38 years old and used to be an assistant principal at an elementary school, killed an officer, Endy Ekpanya, after colliding with his patrol car early on Sunday morning. Police say that Willemsen was intoxicated at the time of the accident, and is now being charged with intoxication manslaughter.
When Willemsen’s silver sedan crashed into the police cruiser, it crushed the driver’s side of the officer’s vehicle. Officer Ekpanya was unresponsive when he was extracted from his car, and he later died while being transported by a medical helicopter.
Willemsen was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, and once she is released she will be booked into the county jail. According to the Harris County court records, Willemsen was out on bond for a charge for possession of methamphetamine. Additionally, she received probation in 2012 for driving while intoxicated.
