According to the Union Leader, a driver required mechanical extrication from his vehicle after being hit by a car nearly head-on near Chesterfield, New Hampshire, on Tuesday morning.

Details of Massive Car Crash

The injury accident occurred on Route 9, west of the Big Deal Discount Store, at around 6:55 a.m. local time. Officials say a pickup truck traveling westbound crossed over the center dividing line, smashing almost completely head-on with an SUV heading east.

The driver of the SUV, 49-year-old Thomas Carlyle, was rescued from his vehicle via the Jaws of Life, reports the Union Leader. Carlyle was then transported to Cheshire Medical Center after being seriously injured in the crash. Jared Pratt, 19, the driver of the pickup truck, was also taken to the hospital in serious condition.

Officials are unsure what caused the pickup truck to cross over the center line, reports the Union Leader. However, police have ruled out drugs, alcohol, and poor road conditions as contributing factors to the wreck. The route was closed for over an hour to clean up the two cars, which both suffered a total loss.
