Likely Salmonella Hazard Calls for Central Valley Meat Co., Inc. Ground Beef Recall


Around 35,000 (34,222) pounds of ground beef produced by the California family owned meat industry, Central Valley Meat Co., has been recalled due to a possible Salmonella Dublin contamination. The recall announcement was declared by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) on November 15, 2019.

About the Ground Beef Salmonella Dublin Contamination Recalls

FSIS has issued this error as a Class 1 Recall with high health risk hazards. Salmonella Dublin is a serious bacterial disease often found in cattle. Symptoms usually range from diarrhea to pneumonia among infected cattle and can also lead to premature deaths or contamination to others. Humans who consume infected meat or unpasteurized dairy products can be infected with this foodborne illness quickly. Salmonellosis, the most common form of Salmonella in humans, develops harmful bacteria within the intestinal tract and can cause fevers, diarrhea, and stomach cramping.

An ongoing investigation of the suspicions of Salmonella outbreak among Central Valley Meat Co. has been underway since September 9, 2019. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) along with FSIS and other local public health establishments have discovered 10 Central Valley Meat consumer patient cases with Salmonella infections throughout six states. FSIS is working diligently to study this outbreak as well as cautioning consumers to check their freezers and homes for Central Valley Meat Co. products produced in July 2019. If found, it is suggested that these ground beef products be immediately thrown out.

The ground beef products were produced July 23, 2019.

The following products are facing the recall:

  • 1-lb. chub packages of “STATER BROS. 100% PURE GROUND BEEF 96% LEAN 4% FAT”
  • 2-lb. chub packages of “STATER BROS. 100% PURE GROUND BEEF 93% LEAN 7% FAT”
  • 20-lb. cases containing “STATER BROS 93/7 Ground Beef 10# Chub 10 Lb. Chubs/ 2 Count”
