Joseph B. Wells Sr., his three-year-old son, and his one-year-old daughter traveled west on Route 286 at approximately 11:10 p.m. when the accident occurred. Police say Wells lost control of his car while navigating a curve near Gemmell Road.
Trib Live reports Wells swerved across the dividing line and slammed his car into an SUV heading eastbound. The force of the wreck ripped Wells’ car in half, ejecting him from the vehicle. Officials pronounced Wells dead at the scene.
Wells’ three-year-old son, Joseph Wells Jr., was in a child seat but was killed after being partially ejected from the vehicle, reports Trib Live. Wells’ daughter survived the wreck and received an airlift to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC for treatment of serious injuries.
Three people in the SUV involved in the wreck also received treatment at a local hospital for minor to moderate injuries.
