Mother Faces Charges After 9-Year-Old Son Killed in Drunk Driving Wreck

According to WRDW, a woman faces drunk driving charges after crashing her car into another vehicle, killing her 9-year-old son that was with her in Augusta, Georgia, on Sunday.

About the Fatal Drunk Driving Crash

The fatal accident occurred on Pepperidge Drive at around 2:45 a.m. local time. Nyako Turner and her son, Brandon Burke, were driving on Pepperidge when Turner crossed into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with another car.

WRDW reports that the boy, who was not wearing a seatbelt, received treatment at a hospital for blunt force trauma. The 9-year-old child died from injuries sustained in the crash on Tuesday morning. Turner was also hospitalized for injuries.

Officials have arrested the mother and charged her with driving under the influence and homicide by vehicle in the first degree. WRDW reports that she will be transferred to jail after her discharge.
