Motorcyclist Dies after Crashing into Pickup Truck


According to KSAT, a 19-year-old man was fatally injured in a motorcycle accident in San Antonio after crashing into a pickup truck on Bandera Road on Thursday evening.

Leaving Candelight Vigil for Fallen Friend

Jose Moreno-Pesina was riding his motorcycle on Bandera Road around 8:15 p.m. after leaving a memorial service for his best friend who died one year ago to the day, reports KSAT.

On his way home, Moreno-Pesina struck the pickup truck of a drunk driver. Luis Perez Jr., 54, pulled his truck out in front of Moreno-Pesina from a bar parking lot. Moreno-Pesina was pronounced dead at the hospital.

Perez was arrested and charged with intoxication manslaughter, according to KSAT.

Motorcycle Crash Statistics

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), per mile traveled in 2014, the number of deaths on motorcycles was over 27 times the number in cars. In addition,

  • 4,295 motorcyclists died in crashes in 2014.
  • Forty-two percent of motorcyclist deaths in 2014 occurred in single-vehicle crashes.
  • In 2014, 62 percent of fatally injured motorcycle drivers were helmeted.
  • Only 19 states and the District of Columbia mandate helmet use by all motorcycle riders.
