Motorcyclist Dies after Striking Van at High Rate of Speed

According to the Waco Tribune, a speeding motorcyclist suffered fatal injuries after colliding with a vehicle in Waco, Texas, on Saturday morning.

Motorcyclist Driving Erratically, says witnesses

Police say Walter Hailey Sudduth, 42, drove his Honda motorcycle on North New Road at approximately 10:45 a.m. when the crash occurred. A driver in a van pulled out of the Lowe’s parking lot, causing Sudduth to slam into the vehicle.

The Waco Tribune reports that Sudduth was ejected from his motorcycle. Sudduth received treatment at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center, but he died from his injuries.

The driver of the van also received treatment at the same hospital for minor injuries, reports the Waco Tribune.

Witnesses to the fatal motorcycle accident say the victim drove recklessly, fast, and popped several wheelies immediately prior to the collision. According to the Waco Tribune, the investigation into the incident is ongoing.

  • Helmets are about 37 percent effective in preventing motorcycle deaths and about 67 percent effective in preventing brain injuries.
  • Only 19 states and the District of Columbia require helmet use by all riders.
  • Motorcycle deaths accounted for 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2014.
