Motorcyclist Killed in Intersection Crash


According to 13WMAZ, a man on a motorcycle died from injuries sustained during a wreck at an intersection in Warner Robins, Georgia, on Tuesday afternoon.

Wreck still under Investigation

Police say the motorcyclist, James Thomas Cole, was riding southbound on Houston Road when a minivan turned in front of him. Cole slammed into the minivan and was transported to Houston County Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Cole was pronounced dead soon after, reports 13WMAZ.

The driver, Thedoshia Shelley, and her five children in the minivan were transported to the hospital. They suffered non-life-threatening injuries, according to 13WMAZ.

Motorcycle Crash Statistics

According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), 4,295 motorcyclists died in 2014. In addition,

  • Motorcycle deaths accounted for 13 percent of all motor vehicle crash deaths in 2014.
  • Only 19 states and the District of Columbia mandate helmet use by all riders.
  • Per mile traveled in 2014, the estimated number of deaths on motorcycles was over 27 times the number in cars.
