Nine-Year-Old Killed in Multi-Vehicle Drunk Driving Wreck

According to WCBD, a drunk driver caused a multi-vehicle pile-up on Interstate 26 in North Charleston on Saturday night, killing a 9-year-old girl and injuring several others.

Details of the Fatal Crash

A driver in a pickup truck lost control on the Interstate 26 off-ramp toward Cosgrove Avenue. The man, identified as 56-year-old Dale E. Yarborough, crashed into several vehicles, pushing them into the embankment off the road. WCBD reports that the accident occurred around 6:00 p.m. local time.

Six vehicles in total received damage in the wreck, according to WCBD. In addition, six crash victims received medical treatment at Medical University of South Carolina.

Nine-year-old Da’Vieona Hamilton, a student at the Sanders-Cycle School community, died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Police arrested Yarborough at the scene for driving under the influence of alcohol, reports WCBD. He faces several charges, including felony DUI with death, reckless homicide, and three counts of felony DUI with great bodily injuries.
