One Dead in Crash Involving 18-Wheeler, Disabled Vehicle

According to WSOC-TV, the driver of an SUV sustained fatal injuries after a crash involving a semi-truck on Monday afternoon in Gaston County, North Carolina.

Details of the Fatal Crash

Police say two men in their 50s traveled along Highway 321 near exit 20 when their SUV experienced a potential mechanical failure. The SUV was traveling at 5 mph in a 65 mph zone when an 18-wheeler collided with the vehicle.

WSOC-TV reports that the driver of the SUV died at the scene of the crash. The passenger in the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and received treatment at a local hospital.

The semi-truck driver received treatment at a hospital for observation, reports WSOC-TV. Further information regarding the cause of the fatal collision has not been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
