According to KWTX, the accident occurred just west of McGregor near the intersection of Highway 84 and Burkett.
A preliminary report suggests a Honda Civic was attempting to turn onto Burkett from Highway 84 when it was struck from behind by a four-door Kia. The impact from the initial collision forced the Honda into the path of an oncoming tractor-trailer.
The crash between the Honda and the semi resulting in a violent explosion that left the Honda completely engulfed in flames. The body of the Honda’s occupant was so badly burned, authorities could not determine if the deceased was a man or a woman.
Reports indicate authorities are relying on DNA to identify the dead driver and that it could be weeks before the identity of the deceased is known.
The driver who caused the accident was transported to Coryell Memorial Hospital where she is listed in stable condition. Charges will be filed, according to troopers, but the severity of the charges will depend on the results of the investigation. The driver of the semi was able to escape the accident without any major injuries.
