At around 2:36 a.m. local time, Cameron Mark Francis and his three friends were traveling through the intersection of Waughtown and Vargrave Streets. Investigators say another driver failed to stop for the red-flashing traffic signal and collided with Francis’ car in the intersection.
Francis was transported to Wake Forest Baptist hospital, but he would later die from the injuries he suffered during the car crash, reports the Winston-Salem Journal.
The three passengers in Francis’ car were also taken to Wake Forest Baptist. Two have been treated and released, and one man is still recovering. The 23-year-old driver of the SUV is also receiving treatment at Wake Forest Baptist.
According to the Winston-Salem Journal, this is their 15th fatality for 2016, compared to 19 at the same time in 2015. The car wreck is currently under investigation.
