According to the Corpus Christi Caller Times, the accident occurred on Interstate Highway 37 when a Ford F-150 rear-ended a Nissan Altima in the northbound lanes. The Altima lost control and struck a concrete divider.
When authorities arrived, the driver of the Altima was unresponsive and transported to Christus Spohn Hospital Shoreline where he later died. The man was identified as Rene Ramos.
Police say the 18-year-old driver of the pickup, Grayson Salas, was speeding and weaving in and out of traffic. He was taken into custody on suspicion of intoxication assault and possession of a controlled substance.
The accident remains under investigation.
