According to CBS Indianapolis, a man is dead and a woman injured after crashing into an 18-wheeler in Bartholomew County, Indiana, on Wednesday morning.

Details of Fatal Trucking Crash

Michael Parris, 33, and Dystiny Leonard, 26, were driving on State Road 7 near County Road 250 at around 5:10 a.m. local time when the crash occurred. Officials say their pickup truck crossed over the center dividing line and entered eastbound lanes where a semi-truck struck them.

The truck driver, 48-year-old Timothy Regan, attempted to swerve around the vehicle but was unable, crashing into the duo’s pickup truck head-on, according to CBS Indianapolis. Parris died at the scene of the crash, and Leonard was taken to Columbus Regional Hospital after complaining of pain. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

According to CBS Indianapolis, Leonard told police that Parris took his eyes off the road prior to crossing the median. When he saw the truck, it was too late to move out of the way, she told officials.
