A man, a woman, and two children were driving in a pickup truck westbound on Interstate 76 when the crash occurred. At around 7:25 a.m. local time, witnesses say the driver of the pickup truck recklessly attempted to pass a semi-truck on the shoulder. The pickup ended up driving through a guardrail and went airborne, landing on its top on the road below.
Officials say the driver was aggressively weaving in and out of traffic and passing other vehicles before the car accident occurred, according to The Denver Post. Witnesses to the accident say the pickup truck was speeding prior to the crash.
A man in the vehicle, who was not wearing his seatbelt, died at the scene of the crash. A woman in the vehicle also suffered from serious injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital. It is unclear which adult was driving at the time of the wreck.
