One Dead, Two Injured in Wrong-Way Crash Involving Alleged Drunk Driver

According to the Wayne Patch, a man is dead and two others injured after being hit by a drunk driver traveling the wrong way in Clifton, New Jersey, on Monday morning.

Suspected Drunk Driver Faces Several Charges

Louis Yanez, 32, was traveling east in the westbound lanes of Route 46 near the Garden State Parkway when the fatal crash occurred. At around 5:00 a.m. local time, Yanez struck a westbound SUV head-on.

The male driver of the SUV died at the scene of the crash, according to the Wayne Patch. Two other occupants in the SUV were injured in the crash and taken to St. Joseph’s Hospital.

The Wayne Patch reports that Yanez faces charges of second-degree death-by-auto, third-degree assault-by-auto, and summonses for driving while intoxicated and reckless driving. The death-by-auto charges carries a sentence of five to 10 years in state prison. He is currently being held in jail with bail set at $250,000.
