Parents Sue Wyoming Hospital for Daughter’s Death

The parents of a young doctor who died last year after suffering a blood clot have filed a lawsuit against Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center alleging that the hospital was negligent in treating their daughter’s condition.

About the Wyoming Doctor’s Death

  • According to reports, Dr. Jennifer Sidari, 26, died of a blood clot shortly after graduating from the Commonwealth Medical College in Scranton, Pennsylvania.
  • A lawsuit filed by the woman’s parents states Sidari arrived at Geisinger Wyoming Valley Medical Center on May 26, complaining of headaches that had been experiencing over a 10-day period.
  • The lawsuit claims that the team of doctors and staff that treated Sidari prescribed pain medications and performed several tests, but had failed to order any head imaging scans to until more than 40 hours after her arrival.
  • Her condition declined rapidly until she died on May 29. The first time Sidari received anti-clotting medication was approximately nine hours before her death.

Family Sues for Medical Malpractice

  • The parents of Sidari allege that negligence by the hospital’s doctors and staff resulted in Sadari’s “wholly preventable” death.
  • According to their suit, the blood clot condition was “easily diagnosable, treatable and entirely correctable,” and that the presence of the clot should have been obvious to experienced medical staff.
  • The lawsuit names the hospital, Geisinger Health System, and Geisinger Health System Foundation as defendants and is seeking unspecified damages including the estimated future earnings of Sadari.
