Pedestrian, 55, Struck and Killed by Alleged Drunk Driver
Details of Fatal Pedestrian Crash
Thomas Vaughn, 55, was walking near 4th Avenue and 29th Street at around 6:00 p.m. local time when the fatal accident happened. Vaughn attempted to cross 4th Avenue when a driver traveling eastbound collided with the pedestrian.
Vaughn was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries, reports the St. Pete Patch. Officials say the pedestrian succumbed to his injuries Tuesday morning. The driver of the SUV, 45-year-old Joseph Kenneth Deegan, was arrested by police following an evaluation.
According to the St. Pete Patch, police determined Deegan was under the influence of alcohol. He has been charged with DUI with serious bodily injury. Additional charges may be filed following the death of the pedestrian.
