Pedestrian, 59, Hit and Killed by Alcohol-impaired Driver

According to KSTP, a pedestrian suffered fatal injuries after being hit by a drunk driver in Howard Lake, Minnesota, on Friday night.

Details of Fatal Pedestrian Crash

The deadly pedestrian accident occurred at around 6:11 p.m. local time on U.S. Highway 12 near County Road 6. Richard Jacobs, 59, was crossing the street at the intersection when he was struck by a car.

Jacobs died at the scene of the accident, reports KSTP. Prior to the fatal wreck, the driver, 55-year-old Kent Mattson, had just left a nearby American Legion where he had a few alcoholic drinks.

Officials say Mattson faces a felony criminal vehicular homicide charge, according to KSTP. The man said he saw an opening in traffic as he attempted to pull onto U.S. Highway 12 when he struck the pedestrian, who he says he didn’t see. Mattson had a blood alcohol concentration of .065 at the time of the crash.
