Pedestrian-Car Accident leaves One Dead, One Injured

pedestrian crosswalk signal

According to WTVF, a driver sustained injuries after striking and killing a pedestrian in the roadway in Nashville, Tennessee, on Thursday night.

Details of Fatal Accident

The deadly pedestrian accident occurred at around 9:00 p.m. local time at the intersection of East Trinity Lane and Meridian Street. Investigators believe that William Smith, 47, was crossing East Trinity Lane outside of a crosswalk when he was hit by a car.

Officials say a motorist slowed down to allow Smith to cross the street, but a Honda Accord traveling behind the vehicle did not, instead swerving around the car. This is when the car, driven by 19-year-old Isaiah Bowman, struck and fatally injured the pedestrian.

After hitting Smith, Bowman crashed into a mailbox and through a fence before coming to a stop, according to WTVF. He was transported to Skyline Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Officials say no charges have been filed, but the investigation is ongoing.

WTVF reports that impairment does not appear to have played a role in the crash.
