Pedestrian Killed by 18-Wheeler on Georgia Highway

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a tractor-trailer Wednesday as she attempted to cross U.S. 301 in Bulloch County.

About the Fatal Trucking Accident

WTOC reports that the woman was struck around 8 p.m. as she attempted to cross U.S. 301 toward Agri Supply.

The truck changed lanes in an attempt to avoid the woman, but was unable to prevent the tragic accident.

Early details concerning the accident were limited. Investigators are interviewing the driver of the 18-wheeler and our looking for additional witness.

Trucking Accident Statistics

The following information was provided by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA):

  • 438,000 trucking accidents occurred in 2014, resulting in 3,903 deaths and 111,000 injuries.
  • Of those killed:
    • 17 percent were occupants of large trucks
    • 73 percent were occupants of other vehicles
    • 10 percent were nonoccupants, including pedestrians and bicyclists
  • Texas led the nation in fatal trucking accidents with 553 deaths recorded. California followed Texas with 300 trucking fatalities reported.
