Pedestrian Killed After Hit by Police Vehicle

According to The Salt Lake Tribune, a 32-year-old man was killed by a police vehicle when he attempted to cross a street during a strong storm in Salt Lake City.

Poor Visibility Reported in the Area of Accident

Police say the man was crossing 1300 South, east of the intersection with Main Street, when he was struck by a Unified Police Department truck at approximately 11:00 p.m. local time. The collision caused the man to be thrown into the opposite lanes where he was hit by a separate vehicle.

The accident occurred during a severe rain storm that had knocked out power, causing the street lights to go dark. Authorities believe the darkness played a role in the accident, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. In addition, the man was wearing dark clothes and was not using the crosswalk.

The man, whose name is currently being withheld pending notification of family, died at the scene of the crash.
