Pedestrian Killed by Drunk Driver in Hit-and-Run Crash

According to Cleveland.com, a 56-year-old man died after being struck by a car while crossing the street early Sunday morning in Cleveland, Ohio.

Multiple Charges Pending for Driver

The man was crossing St. Clair Avenue when he was hit by a drunk driver. According to Cleveland.com, the man was crossing the street in a crosswalk when he was hit.

The driver, a 20-year-old woman from South Euclid, fled from the scene of the crash and did not call 911. Police arrested the woman at her house after she told her father of the incident. Cleveland.com reports that speed and alcohol are suspected to have played a role in the fatal crash.

Court records show that although charges haven’t been filed, the woman faces aggravated vehicular homicide and felony hit-and-skip violations.

    • 2,348 more people died in motor vehicle crashes in 2015 than in 2014 – a 7.2 percent increase.
  • Police-reported injury crashes increased by 67,000 in 2015 from 2014.
  • The number of passenger vehicle occupants injured in motor vehicle accidents increased by 107,000 – or 5.2 percent.
