Pedestrian Struck, Killed by Driver on Sidewalk

According to KTLA, a man walking along a sidewalk in Redondo Beach, California, died after being hit by an elderly woman who lost control of her car.

No Indication of DUI

The fatal accident occurred at the intersection of Francisca Avenue and South Torrance Boulevard. Police describe an elderly woman driving down Torrance Boulevard before losing control of her car and swerving into the sidewalk.

The woman struck a pedestrian, slammed into a wall, and flipped her car over onto its roof, reports KTLA. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. According to KTLA, the elderly woman received treatment at a local hospital. The extent of her injuries are unknown.

The crash remains under investigation, but police don’t believe alcohol or a medical issue caused the crash. According to KTLA, police say it is too early to say if the woman will face charges.
