Family in Phoenix to Receive $200,000 as Wrongful Death Lawsuit Is Settled

A Phoenix family is set to receive $200,000 following the resolution of a wrongful death lawsuit related to a police shooting.

About the Phoenix Police Shooting Death

According to the Arizona Republic, Balantine Mbegbu, a 65-year-old man, died at the hands of the police in October of 2014.

One the night of the police shooting, there was a call made to the police to report domestic violence. When the officers arrived Mbegbu’s wife was outside and he was inside the home eating.

Despite Mbegbu denying that he fought his wife, the officers refused to leave the home. The police described Mbegbu as becoming violent when they tried to arrest him, even calling in backup.

The officers slammed him to the ground, used a stun taser on him, and smashed his head to the ground. Mbegbu ended up having a heart attack and was taken to a hospital where he died.

A settlement was reached and now his family will receive $200,00 for his death. The officer’s lawyers refuse to admit to any wrongdoing on the part of the police.
