Pickup Truck Crashes into Rear of Motorcycle, Killing Rider
Details of Deadly Motorcycle Accident
Gordon Stewart Wimberley, 45, was riding his motorcycle on U.S. Highway 27 near the intersection of NE Orchid Road at around 2:15 a.m. when the accident happened. Wimberley slowed down to make a left turn when he was hit by a truck that failed to slow.
WCTV reports that Wimberley was tossed from the motorcycle and killed at the scene. The truck driver, Brandon Thomas Peterson, did not stop after striking the motorcyclist. However, police were able to track down Peterson, 21, around a half-mile from the crash site.
Peterson was arrested by police and charged with leaving the scene of a crash involving death. According to WCTV, additional charges are pending the results of the ongoing investigation. Currently, it is unclear if alcohol played a role in the wreck.
