The tent collapse occurred on August 2 during the annual Prairie Festival.
According to the Cook County Record, festival goers were urged to take shelter under the tents at the festival as a large thunder storm passed through the area.
On August 2, a large event held in Wood Dale called the “Prairie Festival” was in the center of a large storm during its annual event. Unfortunately, 15 people were injured and one person was killed when severe winds caused stakes and support devices to be pulled from the ground and thrown throughout the tent.
Several of the seriously injured and the family of the deceased victim, identified as Steven Nunic, have filed a lawsuit against Chicago Events, who were hired by Wood Dale to help facilitate the event, seeking damages of more than $400,000.
