Family Sues After Woman Killed by Carnival Ride

Emily Harrigan4 years ago

The family of a woman who was fatally injured by a carnival ride on September 24 has filed a wrongful death against the manufacturer of the ride.

Details of the Fatal Carnival Accident

According to 12 News, the accident occurred during the setup of the ride for the Texas Rice Festival, for which Wrights Amusements provides the rides.

The woman, April Corley, 30, was assembling the Monster Truck Ride for the festival when the accident occurred.

Corley reportedly walked up to the ride that she was helping to set up when a piece snapped off, sending a wing of the ride crashing down onto her. According to the court papers filed in the lawsuit, the piece that crushed Corley weighed approximately 1,800 to 2,400 pounds.

About the Wrongful Death Lawsuit

The attorney for one of Corley’s children, Cade Bernsen, says that Corley and her co-workers were not trained properly in setting up the rides for this event, which is what lead to the accident.

The lawsuit claims that after the piece fell onto Corley, she “did not die instantly” and she “struggled for air until she eventually expired due to traumatic asphyxia and multiple blunt force injuries.”

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has already fined Wrights Amusements thousands of dollars for the incident
