Football Fan Falls from Stands at AT&T Stadium

According to reports from NBC affiliate of Fort Worth, a man was critically injured when he fell from the stands at AT&T Stadium in Arlington Saturday.

About the Stadium Fall Incident

According to NBC-DFW, the man, whose identity has not been released, fell an estimated 12-15 feet from the stands into the floor-level seats during a recent Texas Longhorns football game against UCLA.

The victim was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth and treated for undisclosed injuries. Emergency responders on the scene report the man may have suffered head trauma from the fall. Doctors consider a fall from that height to be a lower level fall; however, it can still cause significant damage.

The man was originally listed as being in critical condition but has shown signs of improvement over the weekend. He is still in the intensive care unit at the hospital.

The Arlington Fire Department had fire inspectors verify the safety of the railing the man fell over and report that it meets all safety requirements. AT&T officials released a statement claiming they are further investigating the circumstances of the accident.

Stadium Injury Statistics

According to CNN there have been more than 800 game-related fatalities involving players, personnel, and spectators recorded between 1862 and 2007. However, the author of the research published by CNN, Robert Gorman, warns his data may be mission hundreds of fatal incidents.

Another researcher, Alana Penza, states that an average of five or six falls occur in sports stadiums every year.
