108k Ford Cars Recalled for Faulty Seat Belts

Rebecca Ramsey2 months ago

Ford has issued a recall for more than 108,000 midsize cars because of seat belt restraining failure.

Details of the Ford Cars Recall

The recall affects certain Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ cars from the 2015 model year. According the Ford company, the cars’ front seat belt cables can become slack due to heat buildup and may lose the ability to properly restrain and protect passengers.

So far, one injury has been reported due to this problem.

To resolve the issue, Ford is offering to apply a protective coating to the cables. Owners will be notified starting Sept. 9.

Tips for Seatbelt Safety

Buckling up is the single most effective thing you can do to protect yourself from serious injury during a crash. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA), nearly 15,000 lives were saved in 2016 because people were wearing seat belts.

However, seat belts can only save lives when they are performing correctly. When you wear your seat belt, you should:

  • Sit upright with your hips all the way back in the seat.
  • Correctly position the shoulder belt so that it crosses your body at your collarbone.
  • Secure the lap portion of the belt low on your hips and snugly.
  • Never trust your safety to a belt that has become slack and does not restrain you.
