There is a possible E-coli O103 contamination in the raw ground beef. An investigation by the FSIS is ongoing to see if the outbreak is connected to the recalled beef. As of right now it is still uncertain if the outbreak came from the recalled beef and there may be additional recalls made. The FSIS recommends making certain all beef is cooked to the proper temperature and not consumed raw to avoid contamination.
The beef is labeled “North Star Imports & Sales, LLC. 100% GROUND BEEF BULK 80% LEAN/ 20% FAT” and marked “FOR INSTITUTIONAL USE ONLY” with lot code GP.1051.18.
The dates of production are October 30-31 and November 1 2018.
They are also marked with the establishment number “EST. 21781”
The affected beef was shipped to Minnesota for distribution and Kentucky for institutional use

According to the USDA it can take 2-8 days for people to become ill from E-coli O103 and the illness lasts approximately 1 week. The most common symptoms are diarrhea and vomiting. However, it is also possible, though uncommon, to develop a type of kidney failure called Hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). If symptoms like easy bruising, pallor, and decreased urination develop the USDA recommends immediate emergency treatment.
