BMW Recalls 45,000 Vehicles for Dangerous Door Defect

BMW has issued a recall for more than 45,000 older 7-Series cars after determining the vehicles’ doors can open unexpectedly while the cars are being driven.

About the BMW 7-Series Recall

According to CNBC, road conditions or occupant contact with the defective doors can cause them to inadvertently open, even when they appear to be closed and latched. This could result in an occupants being ejected from the vehicle and creates and increase risk of injury in a crash.

BMW says the latches can malfunction over time, but the company did not reveal if the defect had resulted in crashes, injuries, or death.

The recall comes in response to a request by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) that BMW investigate consumer complaints about the door opening without warning.
