Ford to Recall 1.34 Million Trucks for Door Latch Defect

Ford Motor Co. has announced plans to recall roughly 1.34 million Ford trucks to resolve a door latch defect that could result in doors becoming stuck shut or failing to completely latch when closed.

About the Ford Door Latch Recall

Reuters reports that the issue is linked to water linking into the door latch or bent or kinked actuation cables. Either issue can result in the latches becoming inoperable.

Ford has stated that customers would be notified next month; however, the automaker was not able to provide an estimated time of resolution nor did it have a timetable for when the parts needed for repairs, namely a rain shield, would become available.

Ford has now recalled more than 5 million vehicles for various door latch-related issues since 2016, and the latest recall is expected to cost more than $265 million.

Vehicles Affected by the Ford Door Latch Recall

Ford has named the following model year vehicles as part of the recall:

  • 2015-2017 Ford F-150
  • 2017 Ford Super Duty

The recalled vehicles were sold in North America.
