Ford Recalls 350,000 Trucks and SUVs for Transmission Issues

Ford Motor Company has issued a safety recall affecting newer pickups and SUVs equipped with potentially defective transmissions. Recall documents note the defect can result in a significant “rollaway” hazard.

Details of the Ford Transmission Recall

According to NY Daily News, the U.S. recall affects roughly 350,000 F-series pickups and Expeditions from the 2018 model year.

Ford notes that the vehicles may be equipped with an automatic transmission gear shift cable locking clips that are not fully sealed. This means the transmission could be left in a different gear than the driver selected and could continue to move after being placed in park.

Ford has confirmed at least one accident in connection with the defect.

A man was killed in Indianapolis in an accident involving a similar issue last month. That accident involved a recalled Pontiac that could shift out of park without the brake being pressed. The car began rolling away with the man’s 3-year-old daughter inside and rolled into a pond. The man died rescuing his child.

Vehicles Included in the Ford Transmission Recall

The recall affects certain 2018 Ford F-150, F-650, F-750, and Expedition vehicles. All recalled vehicles will be equipped with a six- or 10-speed transmission.

Ford will inspect the shift cable locking clip in affected vehicles and secure it if necessary. Repairs will be made at no cost to the owner.

Owners can check if their vehicles are part of the recall by entering their vehicles VIN on the NHTSA recall website.
