Fourth Recall for Overheating Dehumidifiers

Gree Electric Appliances has re-announced a recall of approximately 2.5 million dehumidifiers in the United States and 55,000 in Canada due to hazards resulting from overheating. The dehumidifiers can catch fire and expose consumers to serious fire and burn risks.

About the Dehumidifier Recall

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), this is the fourth recall announcement since September 2013 regarding dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree.

Consumers are advised to immediately unplug and cease use of recalled dehumidifiers. Gree is offering consumers a full refund.

Incidents and Injuries Reported

  • More than 2,000 incidents of dehumidifiers overheating have been reported.
  • Around 450 fires resulting in $19 million in property damage have been reported.
Details About the Recalled Dehumidifiers

The following Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC):

  • This recall applies to 20, 25, 30, 40, 45, 50, 65, and 70-pint dehumidifiers with the following brand names: Danby, De’Longhi, Fedders, Fellini, Frigidaire, GE, Gree, Kenmore, Norpole, Premiere, Seabreeze, SoleusAir, and SuperClima. Consumers can find the brand names and pint capacities on the front of the product.
  • Model numbers and date codes are printed on a sticker that can be found on the front, back, or side of the dehumidifier.
  • The dehumidifiers are made of plastic and come in white, black, gray, and beige.
  • They measure 19-24 inches in height, 13-15 inches in width, and 9-11 inches in depth.
  • The dehumidifiers are sold at AAFES, HH Gregg, Home Depot, Kmart, Lowe’s, Menards, Mills Fleet Farm, Sam’s Club, Sears, Walmart, among others, in the US and Canada. They also sold online at Amazon.com and Ebay.com. They were sold from January 2005 to August 2013 and priced between $110 and $400.
