Harley-Davidson Recalls 175,000 Motorcycles for Brake Failure
Jarod Cassidy1 year ago
Harley-Davidson has decided to recall 175,000 motorcycles at risk of brake failure following pressure from U.S. safety regulators.
About the Harley-Davidson Motorcycle Recall
According to FOX 6 News, the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began investigating the issue in July 2016 after receiving 43 complaints involving brake failures in Harley-Davidson motorcycles. Three of the reports involved crashes and at least two resulted in injury.
The recall covers more than 30 Harley-Davidson models from the 2008 through 2011 model years. Recall documents say deposits can form on brake parts if brake fluid isn’t changed every two years. The deposits can then cause a valve in the anti-lock brake control unit to stick.
Reports indicate that Harley-Davidson wanted to issue a field service campaign in place of a recall; however, the government refused. Dealers will being flushing and replacing brake fluid in affected vehicles beginning February 12.
