IKEA relaunched its recall of 29 million chests and dressers Thursday. The recalled chests and dressers have been linked to eight child deaths and multiple injuries.

About the Defective IKEA Chests and Dressers

According to ABC News, defective IKEA furniture has been linked to eight deaths over the past 28 years. The latest death occurred in May when an IKEA MALM dresser tipped over and fatally crushed a California toddler. The death raised concerns about how effectively the recall was being communicated to consumers as the recall was first initiated in June 2016.

The CEO says the company has adopted an “extensive communication” campaign utilizing social media, television, print ads, and its website. He added that the company had emailed 13 million consumers about the recall two months ago.

While the defect can be resolved with a free wall-mounting kit, the company is also offering full refunds for anyone who no longer wants the chests and dressers, provided the furniture is covered by the recall.
