Klein Tools Recalls Digital Clamp Meters

Klein Tools has recalled 114,000 of their digital clamp meters due to possible shock and burn hazards.

About the Klein Tools Digital Clamp Meters Recall

According to the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the digital clamp meters, which are used to detect electrical current in wiring, can fail to give an accurate voltage reading. This can result in the operator falsely believing the electrical power is off, posing shock, electrocution, and burn hazards.

The clamp meters are black with a backlit LCD display and an orange trigger. The meters measure alternating current up to 400 amps and voltage up to 600 amps. In the CL110KIT, only the meter in the kit is included in the recall.

Consumers should immediately stop using the meters and should contact Klein Tools to return the faulty meter for a replacement. No injuries have been reported.

Model Numbers and Date Codes of Meters

The digital clamp meters with the following model numbers and date codes have been recalled:

  • Model numbers: CL110, CL210, CL310 and CL110KIT
  • Date codes: 0815U-A1, 1015U-A1, 1115U-A1, 1215U-A1, 0116U-A1, 0216U-A1 and 0316U-A1
  • The model numbers are printed on the front of the clamp meters and the date codes are printed on the back.
Retailers of the Meters

The meters were sold at Home Depot, other hardware stores, industrial distributors and electrical wholesalers nationwide. They were sold between November 2015 and April 2016 for between $55 and $75. About 114,000 meters were sold in the U.S., with an additional 3,300 sold in Canada and 3,750 in Mexico.
